Create. Build. Play. Share. What will you make?

SDK Spriter is an all-in-one studio for creating retro video game assets, from the pixel art all the way to playable levels. The final assets can be exported to Miiverse or SDKSpriter.com

SDK Spriter has 4 phases of content-creation: Sprites, Tiles, Maps, and Levels. Sprites are animated characters with 8 frames and 4 compass directions. Tiles are sets of 256 square art pieces used in building environments. Maps are layouts of tiles, collision-maps, and warp-points. Levels are a combination of everything into playable form.

Levels come in three forms: Overworld, Terrain, and Dungeon Master. Overworld levels present the player with an overhead environment similar to classic RPGs, including roaming NPCs. Terrain levels present the player with a pseudo-3D tilted environment similar to early racing games of the 16-bit era. Dungeon Master levels assist with conducting paper-and-dice RPGs, letting the DM/GM control on the Wii U GamePad what the other players see on the TV screen.

SDK Paint offers a unique way to get the artistic juices flowing, by stacking the drawing canvas onto five layers (plus a reference layer), each of which can be independently manipulated in the 8 modes, using numerous brushes, filters, and shaders. The art can be shared to the SDK Paint Gallery, where members can comment on the art, rate it, or view it in a number of image formats - including 3D MPO images.

SDK Paint comes with several Stencils, which are line art underlays that assist in creating artwork, and a mode called Galleries, which features several explorable rooms that have all the saved artwork mounted on the walls. Galleries mode supports several control schemes. Artwork can also be prepared for Miiverse in Sharing mode, by configuring output of either 2D or anaglyph 3D (special glasses required for viewing).

There are also add-on content packs available to add special effects shaders to painting or to add the total of 12 new Galleries.

The current iPad version is a demo. A full-featured "Pro" version will be available in late 2017 and have support for the Apple Pencil and other unique iPad features.
